Greenfield-based Hancock Health Foundation recently received a $10,000 grant from the Urology of Indiana Charitable Fund. The grant will be used to support the new Mental Health and Substance Use Treatment Program at Hancock Health.
The grant was awarded via a blind donor matching process through the Central Indiana Community Foundation. “People in our community, like so many others, are struggling with mental health and substance abuse. There are not enough treatment facilities or professionals in Hancock County to meet the need. In addition, many people who need help don’t have the means to pay for it – and most insurance providers don’t adequately cover mental health or substance use treatment. Our program provides rapid access, navigation and care coordination, medication assisted treatment, increased individual and group therapy, as well as school-based prevention and public education to better serve those struggling with mental health and substance use in our community,” said Allyson Smith, Manager of Hancock Health Foundation.
She continued that an estimated 3,200 individuals were served through these programs over the past year, and they hope to grow this number significantly – while offering new, cutting-edge programs and better access to care.
“Our corporate giving team is committed to supporting organizations like Hancock Health Foundation that promote positive health outcomes for their communities. We are excited to support them to provide the resources they need for their Mental Health and Substance Use Treatment Program,” said Britt McDermott, Urology of Indiana’s Chief Executive Officer.
The Hancock Health Foundation was created in 1982 to support the advancement of health care and wellness throughout Hancock County. Its awards, scholarships and other efforts support the ongoing health of Hancock County residents and address their changing health needs. The foundation also helps to raise funds for needed capital projects.
