Treatment

Balanitis is commonly treated with a topical cream containing an anti-fungal, steroid, or both; rarely an antibiotic is required. Any treatment must include good hygiene. Regular retraction of the foreskin followed by thoroughly cleaning and drying the glans and inside of the foreskin is essential. Inflammation of the glans and foreskin that does not respond to these treatments may require a biopsy to rule out more serious inflammatory conditions or cancer.
