The emotional aftermath of cancer can be difficult, and many cancer treatments negatively affect both sexual function and pelvic health. The health professionals at the Urology of Indiana Men’s Health Center are experts in treating difficulties such as loss of libido after cancer.
Our care team is committed to helping you and your partner work through the emotional journey of surviving cancer and getting back on the path to a thriving personal life.
Our physicians and advanced practice providers believe that preserving and maintaining quality of life is an essential component of comprehensive cancer care. By helping patients prepare for surgery with a solid strategy for recovery, we’re able to offer men their best chance to achieve a satisfying outcome.
UroPlan by Urology of Indiana uses a “stepwise” approach to facilitate recovery of both sexual and urinary function following cancer treatment.
There are multiple, highly individualized factors that can may influence the recovery process. These unique elements include the desire for sexual activity, partner interest, pre-treatment sexual function, existing medical conditions and the presence of any anxiety or depression. Therefore, the roadmaps we follow should be considered a starting point.
Our Care Team optimizes and customizes each man’s program to meet their different medical needs and personal goals. The pace of recovery and return to sexual activity vary significantly for each patient. Our personalized timeline and roadmap choices will help guide your recovery.
There are three elements of the Surgical Consultation:
- Decision is made to proceed with surgery
- Assessment is made of current sexual function, activity level and interest in restoration
- Patient and Surgeon decide upon choice of Restoration Roadmap Program
Roadmap 1: Active Restoration
Roadmap 2: Passive Restoration
Roadmap 3: No Restoration
