Vaginal Dryness & Discomfort

General urology service image

Vaginal dryness or discomfort during intimacy due to menopause or cancer treatment is very common. Urology of Indiana offers non-hormonal MonaLisa Touch laser treatment.

When women go through menopause or undergo some breast cancer treatments, the loss of estrogen and other hormones can lead to different types of changes in the body. One common condition that many postmenopausal women experience is called Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM). GSM symptoms include painful sexual intercourse, vulvovaginal discomfort / irritation, dryness or frequent urinary tract infections.

For some women, these symptoms are effectively treated with vaginal estrogen products. Other women may not respond to, or cannot use, vaginal estrogen. For these women, there is a minimally-invasive, nonhormonal office procedure called MonaLisa Touch.

This FDA-cleared therapy is non-surgical and delivers fractional CO2 laser energy to the soft tissues of the vagina. The laser works by stimulating new blood vessel growth as well as collagen and elastin production in the tissues.

Treatment generally consists of three 5-10 minute sessions that are performed six weeks apart. After that, one maintenance treatment is typically needed annually. There is minimal discomfort and no downtime. Patients can resume their daily activities immediately.

It is important to note that MonaLisa Touch is not a cosmetic procedure, nor is it meant to act as “vaginal rejuvenation”. The physicians and advanced practice providers at Urology of Indiana can help determine if MonaLisa Touch is appropriate for you.

This service is not covered by health insurance. We offer single-session pricing as well as a 3-treatment package price.
