Urologist Kristen Maatman, MD from Urology of Indiana recently performed the first Altaviva procedure in the state of Indiana. Altaviva is a minimally-invasive neuromodulation treatment for bladder control. A small device is placed under the skin near the ankle. The Altaviva system then automatically delivers scheduled therapy stimulation pulses to the tibial nerve, which helps to reduce Urge Urinary Incontinence symptoms. This is an outpatient procedure, and no sedation or imaging is required. Patients are able to go home the same day.
Unlike medications or injections that target bladder muscles, the Altaviva implant targets the tibial nerve that helps control normal bladder function. The long-lasting battery is designed to deliver up to 15 years of treatment. Altaviva can be appropriate for certain patients who experience sudden urges or bladder leaks.
Urology of Indiana is excited to offer this option to our patients, and several of our Urologists / Urogynecologists will be performing Altaviva.
If you find yourself constantly looking for the location of the nearest bathroom, there is hope! Call us to see if this treatment may be appropriate for you. 877-362-2778
